From October 29 to November 2, 2025, Palermo will host the CICO – Italian Championship for Olympic Classes EDISON NEXT, the most prestigious event in Italian Olympic sailing. For the first time in its history, the Sicilian capital will serve as the stage for this national competition, welcoming over 1,000 athletes, 600 boats, and hundreds of coaches, federation officials, and race officers.

Organized by the Consortium of United Sailing Clubs of Palermo, with the support of the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV), CICO 2025 represents a top-level sporting and logistical challenge, as well as a unique opportunity to promote the local area. The races will take place across 8 regatta courses located along the Palermo coastline, from Mondello to Sferracavallo, including Isola delle Femmine and Roosevelt, offering a breathtaking showcase of sea, skill, and competition.

Beyond its technical profile, CICO 2025 will feature a large onshore area with an FIVillage, three thematic villages, four relaxation zones, four food areas, and a Sponsor House that will serve as a meeting point for media, partners, and the public. Attendance is expected to exceed 5,000 daily visitors, with an estimated total of 20,000 attendees over the entire week.

The event will not be solely about sport — it will also serve as a platform for cultural and tourism promotion, blending sport, inclusion, sustainability, and Mediterranean identity. The strong international presence of the teams will make Palermo a global showcase for sailing and a spotlight for Italian talent in the lead-up to the Olympic Games.

With CICO EDISON NEXT 2025, Palermo positions itself as a new national hub for Olympic and Paralympic sailing, proving how synergy between sport and territory can generate value, vision, and a future.

On the occasion of the Italian Olympic Classes Championship (CICO) Edison Next 2025, FIV – the Italian Sailing Federation (Federazione Italiana Vela) has chosen to support the AIRC Foundation for Cancer Research (Fondazione AIRC per la ricerca sul cancro).

Since 1965, AIRC has continuously supported independent cancer research and promoted prevention, with the goal of making cancer increasingly curable.

The initiative is part of the AIRC Foundation’s broader “Days of Research” (Giorni della Ricerca) program, scheduled from October 27 to November 16.

What is the CICO EDISON NEXT 2025 event?

The CICO EDISON NEXT 2025 is the Italian Championship for Olympic Classes, recognized as the most important event for Olympic sailing in Italy. The championship will also include Parasailing disciplines (Para Sailing Academy FIV, withthe support of IBSA)

The event is scheduled to take place in Palermo from October 28 to November 2, 2025.

The championship is organized by the Consorzio Circoli Velici Riuniti, a consortium of eight historic sailing clubs in Palermo, with the support of the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV)

The championship will host several Olympic sailing classes across six different race courses:

  • Alpha: 2.4 mR, Hansa 303

  • Bravo: ILCA 6 and 7

  • Charlie: Kitefoil

  • Delta: 470

  • Echo: iQFoil (Men and Women)

  • Foxtrot: 49er, 49erFX, Nacra 17

The event will take place across several key locations in Palermo:

  • Mondello: This will be the site of the Main Regatta Village, hosting the opening and closing ceremonies, award ceremonies, and sponsor areas. Race courses Bravo and Delta (ILCA 6–7 and 470) will be located here.

  • Roosevelt: This area will feature a Regatta Village and host races for the Delta (470 Hansa) and Alpha (2.4 mR) classes.

  • Sferracavallo: A Regatta Village will be set up here for the Echo (iQFoil) and Foxtrot (49er, 49erFX, Nacra 17) classes.

  • Isola delle Femmine: This location will host the Charlie race course for Kiteboarding, with its own dedicated Regatta Village

By public transport: The most convenient bus line is 806 (AMAT), which departs from the city center of Palermo (Politeama area) and goes directly to Mondello, passing through Parco della Favorita.

By car: From the city center, take Viale della Libertà and drive through Parco della Favorita (Viale Diana/Viale Margherita di Savoia) until you reach Mondello’s main square.

By public transport: Take bus line 603 (AMAT), which runs along the Addaura coastline. You may need to take a connecting bus from the city center (e.g., line 101) to reach the 603 route near the Stadio (stadium) area.

By car: Follow the seafront road (Via Francesco Crispi) heading north, continuing on Strada Statale 113. The pier is located along the coast in the Addaura area, just before reaching Mondello.

By public transport: The fastest option is the regional train from Palermo Centrale or Notarbartolo Station, getting off at the “Palermo Sferracavallo” stop. Alternatively, bus 628 (AMAT) connects the Stadio area to the village.

By car: Take Viale della Regione Siciliana (the ring road) heading toward Trapani, then take the A29 highway. Exit at “Mondello/Sferracavallo” and follow the signs.

By public transport: The most direct option is the regional train from Palermo Centrale or Notarbartolo Station. Get off at the “Isola delle Femmine” stop.

By car: Take Viale della Regione Siciliana, then the A29 highway towards Trapani/Mazara del Vallo. Use the “Capaci/Isola delle Femmine” exit.
